Wave of the Day Aglianco Rosé 2020 – Good Pair Days
Let’s start the week on a rosé-y note!
Firstly a big thank you to the team at Good Pair Days (GPD) for this sample. GPD offers a monthly wine subscription so you can taste and learn about new wines on the regular. You receive tasting notes and food match recipes for each bottle every month + a few surprises along the way too.

This Wave of the Day 2020 Rosé is made from McLaren Vale (South Australia) Aglianco grapes. It’s a collab project between GPD and Richard and Malcom Leask of Hither & Yon.
The Aglianco grape
Aglianco is a southern Italian black grape variety. It is typically made into full bodied savoury red wines. However it can also be made into fresh easy-to-drink style + Rosé of course.
Aglianco Rosé Food Matches
The GPD food match is a Cubano Sandwich – yummm!! And it’s a recipe I’ll definitely be keeping on hand for the next time we have leftover roast pork.
However we ended up matching it to loaded hotdogs (think mustard, jalapeños, beetroot, pickle, etc) and boy it went down a treat.
My personal opinion
In the glass it’s the colour of onion skin. While on the nose it’s a bit like lemon & lime with pretty delicate flowers and herbs. In the mouth it’s got a juicy acidity burst and a nearly mouth puckering grapefruit finish. Fresh, bright and perfect on a scorching hot day.
