Curtis Family Vineyards 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon

Curtis Family Vineyards ‘Heritage’ 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon

Even before 2020 and all the lock downs, Mr Spittoon and I were pretty good at date night at home. We really only need a good bottle (or two) of wine.

This bottle of Curtis Family Vineyards ‘Heritage’ 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon was a free gift (thank you!!) and it was just what we needed for a wet and wintry date night in.

The Nut House Wine Co Shiraz.

Shiraz! Wine not I say. It’s a great food-friendly wine and also great by itself.

Rusty Mutt 2019 Catnip Viognier – McLaren Vale

Rusty Mutt 2019 Catnip Viognier - McLaren Vale

Hands up who loves Viognier.

Pronounced “Vee-own-yay” – Viognier originated from France. This white wine grape produces a full bodied wine and many say that if you like Chardonnay, then this will be right up your alley.

We recently cracked into this Rusty Mutt Wines 2019 ‘Catnip’ Viognier from McLaren Vale, SA which I received as a sample (thank you!). It’s named for winemaker Scott’s wife who is a Tiger in Chinese astrology. All the Rusty Mutt wines names relate to Chinese astrology including ‘Rusty Mutt’ as Scott himself is a ‘Metal Dog’ in Chinese astrology.

Sherrah 2018 ‘White et al’ Fiano / Chenin Blanc

Sherrah 2018 ‘White et al’ Fiano / Chenin Blanc

Yes I’m a little obsessed with my unique white wine blends at the moment. This one is a blend of mostly Fiano and Chenin Blanc grapes – two varieties I love by themselves. And when combined, they are pretty tasty too!

I received this sample of the Sherrah 2018 ‘White et al’ from Good Pair Days (thank you!!). It’s made from McLaren Vale fruit in South Australia.

Rusty Mutt 2018 Rocky Ox GSM (Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro)

Rusty Mutt 2018 Rocky Ox GSM

Seriously, who can resist a wine with doggies ? on the label? Not me!

So what’s the significance of the dogs on this bottle of small batch Rusty Mutt wine? Well the winemaker, Scott Heidrich, was born in the year of the ‘Metal Dog’ according to Chinese astrology. Rusty Mutt is his passion project as he currently is the senior winemaker for another McLaren Vale company.

A big thanks to Scott for sending this sample of his ‘Rocky Ox’ 2018 GSM over to taste. The ‘GSM’ stands for Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro – the 3 grapes which make up the blend of this wine.

Rocky Ox is named on behalf of Scott’s daughter Kara who is an Earth Ox in Chinese astrology.

  • 12 months maturation in used French puncheons

Available for $30 via the Rusty Mutt website.

We found it a bright garnet red colour in the glass. Notes of plums, cherries raspberries, baking spice, tobacco and mocha come through on the nose for us. While in the mouth it has a juicy fruit burst with a hint of pepper and there’s some dark chocolate covered berries in there too. Scrumptious!

This wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.
