Red Embers 2018 Tannat – Good Pair Days
Happy International Tannat Day! Every year on the 14th of April, wine lovers around the world fill their glasses up with Tannat to toast this delicious red wine grape.
It’s Uruguay’s champion grape and it’s also grown here in Australia! In my latest Good Pair Days wine subscription box (which I kindly received as a gift – thank you GPD!) I couldn’t help but include a Tannat in my choices.
This Aussie Tannat is made by Red Embers in McLaren Vale, South Australia. Red Embers is a collaboration between Good Pair Days and Malcolm and Richard Leask of Hither & Yon. The suggested food match is ‘Smoky Vegan Carrot Burgers’. Now I’m no vegan, but they sound absolutely delicious!

My Tasting Note
It’s a deep burgundy shade in the glass. On the nose there’s black fruits, tar, Christmas spices and some cocoa. While in the mouth it’s just as you’d expect from the nose, dark, brooding and oh so comforting. I love the nice mix of savoury, earthy flavours mixed with juicy black fruits. We enjoyed it on its lonesome and oh my did it warm up the evening 😉
