Rusty Mutt 2019 Catnip Viognier – McLaren Vale
Hands up who loves Viognier.
Pronounced “Vee-own-yay” – Viognier originated from France. This white wine grape produces a full bodied wine and many say that if you like Chardonnay, then this will be right up your alley.
We recently cracked into this Rusty Mutt Wines 2019 ‘Catnip’ Viognier from McLaren Vale, SA which I received as a sample (thank you!). It’s named for winemaker Scott’s wife who is a Tiger in Chinese astrology. All the Rusty Mutt wines names relate to Chinese astrology including ‘Rusty Mutt’ as Scott himself is a ‘Metal Dog’ in Chinese astrology.
Here’s what we thought of this $30 bottle (available via the Rusty Mutt website):
It’s a cheery yellow shade on the eye. Beach air/sea salt, fresh Guava, pear, citrus rind, olives and floral notes emerge from the glass. While in the mouth it’s delicately delicious with fresh apple, zesty grapefruit, a pinch of spice and a nice lingering finish. Very tasty!
This wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.
