Krug 2004 Vintage Brut Champagne
This was the bottle I’ve been waiting so patiently to crack over the last few months. Mr Spittoon and I came across this Krug 2004 after my 12 week ultrasound – once we found out our baby boy was healthy and growing well. We wanted to buy something special to celebrate and to drink once our baby was born.
2004 was also the year we met, so this vintage has a special place in our hearts.
We finally cracked this on the weekend and it was worth the wait and the price tag. We bought it from Dan Murphys.
In the glass it’s a pale golden shade with teeny tiny bubbles. It’s alluring and elegant. On the nose it makes me think of oaked fruit, it has hint of caramel and actually makes me think of banoffee pie. There’s also some candied citrus in there – it sounds like I’m describing a sweet wine yet it’s very much dry. In the mouth it’s like apple crumble. It has a Granny Smith Apple acidity alongside a creamy, biscuity taste to it. The mousse is delicate and super smooth with an ultra long lasting, lip-licking finish. Totally worth the 9 month wait.
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!
