Cape Mentelle 2017 Chardonnay – Margaret River
Happy 50 year anniversary Cape Mentelle!
If you haven’t yet visited Cape Mentelle in Margaret River, pop it on your to do list once we’re on the other side of this Coronavirus pandemic. It was back in 2013 when we visited the cellar door and uncovered the deliciousness of the brand.
Cape Mentelle was established by David Hohnen in 1970 and is one of the first founding Margaret River wineries. A big thanks for sending this sample bottle my way, it was well looked after 😉
This 2017 Chardonnay was given 97 points by James Halliday and was hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed, wild-fermented and held in bottle until release. It’s 14.5% however I wouldn’t have guessed that. To be honest, it’s an absolutely divine wine!
It’s a clear glistening gold shade in the glass. Enticing notes of nectarine, white peach, vanilla, lemon curd and sweet charred oak rise up from the glass. While on the palate it’s ultra smooth and creamy with orchard fruit sweetness alongside a slice of lemon tart, well integrated oak and a long refreshing finish. So delicious!
This wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.
