Dormilona ‘Yokel’ 2020 Trebbiano Pet Nat
Hands up who loves their Pet Nats?
Don’t worry if you have no idea what I mean by that either. Even if you haven’t tuned into the TC for very long, then you’ll know I’m not talking about a pet cat called Nat but that I’m talking about wine.
Petillant naturel wines are sparkling wines that are made in a slightly different method to your regular fizz. The fermentation is finished in the bottle and they are typically unfined and unfiltered + sealed with a crown cap. They’re rustic and have an array of fun flavours and interesting textures. They’re definitely very trendy right now.
We bought this ‘Yokel’ 2020 Trebbiano Pet Nat from Dormilona over in WA. The grapes are sourced from Vino Italia in Perth’s Swan Valley. With every bottle of the Yokel wine sold, a dollar is given to the little mascot on the label – the Western Swamp Tortoise which is most critically endangered reptile in Australia.
In the glass it’s a mysterious cloudy golden yellow-peach colour. It’s a super intriguing fizz, think flavours and aromas of pear and guava with a tropical acidic bite. It’s racy and crunchy. Love those textural flavours.
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!
