Sassafras Wines 2016 Montepulciano Ancestral
I kept this The TC Wine Club pick especially to share with my Dad as I know he’s quite partial to sparkling red and there’s not a huge amount of it in NZ.
This Sassafras Ancestral 2016 Montepulciano is made from grapes from South Australia’s Riverland Region. Sassafras is a Canberra based producer.
Did you know: ‘Ancestral’ is the sparkling wine production method they use which is, in fact, the oldest production method in the world. As Wine Spectator describes it: “the primary fermentation is stopped before completing, and a secondary fermentation occurs in the bottle, ending when the yeast cells deplete the supply of residual sugar.”
We found this bubbly red a cloudy crimson red colour in the glass with enticing scents of vanilla and orange. In the mouth, it has a smooth bubbly texture with tobacco, orange zest, mixed spice and a hint of almonds. Intriguing wine!
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy! #winesample #tcweekdaywine
