Huntaway Reserve 2017 Chardonnay – New Zealand
I’m in New Zealand and we’re getting stuck into the NZ wine.
We picked up this NZ$13 bottle from the local supermarket as Mr Spittoon was craving a Chardonnay (he has such good taste). It’s a 2017 and is from Gisborne here in NZ.
If you’re not sure, Gisborne is on the east coast of the North Island and is know for its wineries and surf beaches.
In the glass we found it a light golden lemon shade. It’s got a relatively big nose on it full of fresh pineapple, vanilla oak and grapefruit. While in the mouth it’s dry but makes you think of Manuka honey mixed with florals and apricots. It tastes rather big in alcohol (abv is 13.5%) which I wonder if it would mellow with a bit more age?
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!
