Francois Montand Methode Traditionnelle Blanc de Blancs Brut – Good Pair Days
I love playing around with wine and food matches – some of the most amazing matches I have had were pairings that I never thought to try!
Recently we were having chicken curry for dinner (to be exact it was the ‘Baby’s First Curry’ recipe from the What Mummy Makes Cookbook.. haha the perfect cookbook to pair wine with right!) and I really felt like bubbles. Thankfully the team at Good Pair Days know my tastes well and sent me this sample bottle in my last monthly wine subscription box (thank you!!) to try.
Why this sparkling wine is special
This Francois Montand Blanc de Blancs Brut Non-Vintage is from Jura in France. I think it’s the first time I’ve had a bubbles from the Jura region!
Francois Montand comes from a long line of winemakers in Champagne and moved to Jura in the 1940s. His sparklings are made in the same style as Champagne (yet much more cost effective – this one is $23 from Good Pair Days).
However was is not typical of champagne and what makes this bubbles super unique and special is the blend of grapes used. It’s made from Colombard, Ugni Blanc and Chardonnay! What a trio!
Suggested food pairings
To be honest, I would recommend it with a simple chicken curry with a kick of fresh red chilli spice. It went down an absolute treat!
Our friends at Good Pair Days suggest matching it to a delicious sounding ‘Seared Squid with Spicy Mayo. Alongside breaded meats, fish, cheeses, buttered popcorn, salads, quiche and anything deep fried. Make sure to check out Good Pair Days food and wine pairing guide for more delicious tips.
My tasting note
It’s a sandy golden shade in the glass with toasty aromas of crumpets with butter and honey, citrus zest and some lip-licking spiced apple and pear notes. In the mouth it’s 100% an easy drinking sparkler. Think fresh brioche, juicy apples and creamy lemon curd. YUM!
