Castle Rock Estate 2018 Porongurup Riesling
Oh yes we so did. When I was back in Perth recently we totally raided Naomi’s wine cellar. Naomi has visited the Great Southern region a couple of times this year and she most definitely brought back some tasty loot.
One of those bottles was this Castle Rock Estate 2018 Porongurup Riesling produced by winemaker Rob Diletti.
On the back label it does say this dry Riesling will develop over the next 10 years (at least, maybe even longer with acidity like that!) so I hope Naomi has a few more stashed away since we polished this one off.
If you follow the wine show awards, this under $25 bottles picked up gold medals at both the Perth Royal Wine Show and the Wine Show of Western Australia in 2018. At the latter it also picked up the Best Riesling of Show and Best Great Southern White of Show trophies. James Halliday has given it 96/100.
Here are our notes on it:
It’s a very pale yellow / straw colour in the glass. On first whiff you smell that iconic Riesling minerality intermingled with Granny Smith apples and zesty lime and florals. It definitely has a nice oomph of aromas. In the mouth it’s crisp, fresh, and slips down the throat with absolute ease. Gorgeous acidity.
Naomi bought it for $23 at the Porongurup Wine Festival.
