Angullong Fossil Hill 2016 Sangiovese Barbera Sagrantino
When choosing what types of wine to include in my Wine Selectors Customised Plan trial pack, I couldn’t go past the ‘Mediterranean Reds’ category. This category includes wines made from the likes of Barbera, Dolcetto, Mourvedre / Mataro, Nebbiolo and Sangiovese. I thought it sounded like an interesting category of wines and this wine definitely proved that.
This Angullong Fossil Hill red wine is made from the Sangiovese, Barbera and Sagrantino grape varieties. It’s made in NSW (Mount Canobolas – Orange) and sits at 14.5% abv. Here are my notes on it:
Pretty shade of garnet in the glass with juicy notes of plummy fruits on the nose. There is also some farminess on the nose with a sprinkling of spice, perhaps a bit of cinnamon. In the mouth it also has that fruity savoury character to it. Think cherries and cranberry with wonderful acidity and integration of oak. It also has a lovely long finish.
This bottle was sent to me as a sample from Wine Selectors.
