Garbin Estate NV Sparkling White

Winemaker Peter Garbin and his wife Katrina are known throughout the Valley for their sparkling winemaking skills. Making Sparkling Wine is quite an intricate process and a very interesting one as well. The Garbin’s have all the latest equipment in their winery so if you get a chance to pop in the cellar door, see if you could have a sneak peek behind the scenes, it is fascinating!

The Garbin Sparkling White is made from locally grown Chenin Blanc grapes and it is made in the tradition French Champagne Method. I was surprised to hear it sells for under $20 a bottle at $19.50 – absolute bargain!

Tasting Note

This beautiful bubbles is sunshine in a glass, the tiny bubbles dance through your glass. On the nose it is rather toasty with bread notes and cooked orchard fruits. On the palate it is stunningly smooth, it simply slips down the throat and you’re reaching for another sip, totally moorish! To me it tasted like apple pie with lovely notes of citrus and a touch of vanilla. Divine and I definitely wouldn’t turn this baby down with some roast pork and apple sauce on the side!

Christmas Special

If you are a die-hard ‘The 25 Swan Valley Sparkling Wines of Christmas’ fan then you may have seen that Garbin Estate actually featured on December 4th with their Gold Leaf Sparkling Semillon!! This limited edition bubbles is just out for the Christmas season and is $50 a pop.

About Garbin Estate Wines

Garbin Estate was established in 1956 by Duje Garbin who immigrated to Western Australia from the Dalmatian Coast. The business has since been passed onto son, Peter and his wife Katrina who has taken Garbin Estate from being a bulk producer to making boutique red, white, sparkling and fortified wines.

The Garbin’s have spent a lot of time over the past 15 years on upgrading their winery equipment, establishing a vineyard in Gingin (90 minutes from the Perth CBD) and doing up their processing area and cellar door. The cellar door was currently being updated in October when I visited, so I am looking forward to seeing the updates next time I go back.

I was really excited that the Garbin’s wanted to be a part of this project as in terms of sparkling wines in the Swan Valley they are specialists, having been specialising in methode traditionelle for the last 6 years! Peter and Katrina also offer a contract methode champenoise disgorging and riddling service to many other wineries in the Valley.
