Have Edgecombe Brothers created the best takeaway burgers in Perth?
The Swan Valley has a new burger contender in town! Of course there is the famous Alfred’s Kitchen in Guildford which is always pumping and known to have some of the cheapest and best burgers in Perth, but now up the other end of the Valley in Henley Brook a new burger kitchen has opened.
Swan Valley winery, Edgecombe Brothers has decided to open its doors on Friday and Saturday evenings from 5-9pm to offer eat in or takeaway food. I think it’s a fantastic idea to cater to all those living in Ellenbrook and the surrounding areas.
If you have read my post’s from awhile ago about breakfast at Edgies or their asparagus masterclasses then you’ll know that this Swan Valley winery is so down to earth and really does have that family feel about it. They serve up hearty food in a casual, enjoyable atmosphere.
Last weekend when I rocked up to Edgies just after 5pm to try out their new burger kitchen, Alf Edgecombe was busy attending to the fires in the half tin barrels outside which were full of mangled vines. He told me that he had a ton of old grape vines to burn. It was quite a cool touch to see these twisty old vines slowing burning and providing some lovely heat. Definitely a great spot for a bite to eat and glass of wine on a chilly night.
I decided to order and takeaway on this particular occasion, and I must say it was super quick. I was waiting about 5-10 minutes max which passed by so quickly after I had a wee walk around the property.
I decided to order dinner for the evening and lunch for the next day. It was a tough decision between The Edge Burger and the BLT. I decided to go for the former, the idea of the ‘amazing beetroot relish’ sold me! The burger was $10.50 and a side of sweet potato wedges (gluten-free) was $8.50. And then I ordered a small pumpkin soup for the next day which was $4.50.
Oh and how can I forget that you can also order wine to have there or takeaway! I decided to buy a bottle of the 2013 Shiraz for $23 to takeaway. Wine and burgers + they take eftpos, #winning!
The Swan Valley burger verdict..
The Edge Burger – Loved it, the focaccia bread was awesome, the Dardanup beef patty was moist and juicy, and that beetroot relish with the caramelised onions made it an absolute winner in my books. Next time I would be tempted to ask for extra relish and onions.
Sweet Potato Wedges – These were good, but I was definitely kicking myself I didn’t have any sour cream or aioli at home, a bit of sauce would have been good with them. I do think $8.50 is a bit steep and probably on my next trip I will opt for the traditional hot chips for $4.50.
Pumpkin Soup – Delicious with some freshly cracked pepper over the top. You could tell it was made from fresh pumpkin, it really went down a treat. Great value.
I’m looking forward to my next visit already and that may just happen to be this week 🙂 Shhhh.. Don’t tell the diet!
