The closest I have come to a tea & wine combination is when we had a bottle of Veuve Clicquot ‘Rich’. This Champagne is the very first Champagne created expressly to be combined with ice and a fresh ingredient. There are numerous recommendations to mix it with and one of those was tea leaves. Mr Spittoon and I were both surprised by the combo and the deliciousness of it.
Therefore I was looking forward to getting stuck into this sample I received (thank you!). We were very surprised as I wasn’t quite sure camomile would tick the box for me. Here are our notes:
Lemon honey colour in the glass. The nose follows suit on the colour, think honeyed lemon rind with a hint of camomile. Mr Spittoon thought it smelt a bit like a cinnamon roll. While in the mouth it’s like a fresh white mulled wine that goes down like a treat! Think flavours of pear, vanilla, mandarin and you can definitely taste the chamomile however it’s wonderfully integrated. The flavours really coat the tongue. Definitely not what we were expecting and yes we’d drink it again.
Available at Dan Murphy’s for $22.
This wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.
