Swinging Gate 2016 Pinot Noir Rose – Tasmania
Swinging Gate in Tasmania’s Tamar Valley is another cellar door which would be high on my list to recommend people to visit. This rustic barn which looks out over the vines is full of all sorts of goodness. Including plenty of wine!
We had a fantastic tasting when we visited and even got to sample of the yet to be released Gruner Veltliner Pet Nat. Which was superb by the way. However it was the Whole Bunch Pressed Pinot Grigio and the Pinot Noir Rose which I just had to buy.
This $30 rosé was worth every penny. It’s dry, zesty and 100% moreish. Here are the notes I wrote down at the time:
On the eye it’s a peachy shade with a copper highlight. On the nose it makes me think of grapefruit toasted on the BBQ, musk sticks and navel orange. While in the mouth it’s incredibly smooth and juicy with pears and stonefruit (think nectarines and peaches) dominating for me. A winter cobbler in a glass!
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!
