Gilbert Wines 2012 Reserve Shiraz – Great Southern
So this is how I spent my Shiraz Wine Day last night. I dipped into the cellar for this Gilbert Wines 2012 Reserve Shiraz which we bought from the cellar door in WA’s Great Southern back in 2017. And oh my, it’s drinking beautifully – you were right Clint!
If you enjoy elegant, cool-climate Shiraz then make sure you have a taste of Great Southern Shiraz, they have some stunners! Like this one from Gilberts. Here are our notes on it:
It’s becoming a nearly red brick colour in the glass. On the nose I pick up juicy red and black fruits with cloves and spice plus a bit of earthiness to it. It definitely seduces you in for a taste. While in the mouth is smooth and rounded with still a bit of tannins in it suggesting it’ll go for longer too. Plums fill the palate with subtle black peppercorns adorning the finish. Yum! The bottle disappeared way too quickly for my liking.
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!
