Pierre Brecht 2017 Sylvaner
The next bottle in this month’s TC Wine Club box in collab with The Wine Gallery is this bottle of Pierre Brecht 2017 Sylvaner from Alsace, France.
Please note: The sausage wasn’t included in the wine club delivery 😉
I picked this bottle because it’s not every day I drink a wine made from the Sylvaner grape variety. I’m really glad I bought myself Wine Folly’s Magnum Edition Master Guide for Christmas so I could read more about this grape which is primarily grown in Germany. If you like Pinot Gris then Sylvaner also spelled Silvaner, might be up your alley. Try something new in 2019.
Or join the TC Wine Club where there’ll be plenty of new and interesting wines for you to try with me.
The history of wine production in Alsace dates back to the 1600s and Pierre Brecht are dedicated to growing local varieties only. I was really excited to get stuck into this one.
In the glass, it’s s sun-kissed yellow. It’s rather floral and herby on the nose and makes me think of fresh guava, feijoa and passion fruit with a hint of mushrooms. It has quite a creamy mouthfeel with rather tart acidity and a delicious slightly salty finish. I can see why it’d match well with fish ? dishes and tofu. However, we felt it went well with our rustic herby sausages too (thanks for the tip #thewinegallery)!
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!
