Houghton 2018 Reserve Shiraz – Western Australia
Western Australian Shiraz anyone?
Introducing the new Reserve range from Houghton Wines.
“The Houghton Reserve range epitomises Western Australia’s signature varietals and features a Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc at a RRP of $14.99.”
A big thanks to Dialogue PR who recently sent us this sample to try. We popped it in the decanter so the aromas and flavours could really open up.
The grapes for this one are soured from WA’s Great Southern region, specifically the Frankland River sub-region. Here’s our notes:
It’s a deep purple red colour in the glass. On the nose I pick up red berries (specially cranberry), violet perfume, aniseed and a hint of toffee. While in the mouth it’s approachable with soft acidity and is incredibly fruit driven. Think juicy plums infused with a hint of liquorice. There’s a nice subtle tannic structure at the back.
This wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!
