The reason why I haven’t been blogging & a warning for all bloggers
I guess this post is more an explanation than anything else to all my lovely loyal readers, yes that’s YOU!
My blogging and even my social media channels have taken a bit of a dip in the last week, I am slowly getting back on track but I guess I wanted to let you all know why it has taken a dip and I also want to give other bloggers out there a bit of a warning to stay safe.
Recently I was targeted by someone who inflicted damage at my house and left a very horrible and mean printed out note in my letterbox. The person who wrote the note clearly knows who I am, where I live and that I blog. They have now visited my house twice (most likely at night) and vandalised personal property at the house.
To say the incident has shaken me up is an understatement. The police were immediately involved and forensic tests undertaken, on advice we have installed several security measures to ensure safety of our property and selves. It still baffles me as to why someone would want to do this to me. It’s mean, horrible and completely upsetting.
I am normally very careful about details of my private life relating to security matters, but I just want to warn all bloggers or those with online profiles through social media to be so careful. The person who has done this to me has alluded to the fact that I blog, without any particular details so I have no idea if the blog is the cause of these hurtful acts against me.
In my terrified state on the night this all happened, I told my Dad on Skype that I’m giving up the blog. Even if it has the small connection, I don’t want to provoke the person more. But my Dad came back saying, you can’t let all your loyal readers down because of 1 person. While still hesitant, I do agree. I love my blog, I love you guys and your interactions with the Travelling Corkscrew. Blogging about wine is up there with shopping, wining and dining and all those good things in life.
Even if it was the blog that was the connection I was reluctant to provide further information for this person to act on.
Lastly I just want to say a HUGE THANK-YOU for all the support and love that has been sent my way. While I love living in Perth, it’s times like this that make me so homesick, but it’s so awesome to know that here and across the world I know so many fabulous people and I really want to thank-you.
Thank you for the kind words Nadine! x
This is just awful, I’m so sorry that you had to experience this! And thank you for posting and warming others about this. I really hope they manage find the person soon Xx Nadine
Thank-you Mel x
Thanks Jess, the support just over the last couple of days from the online community has been truly amazing!
Thank you for the kind words Rodney 🙂
Well done on not letting them win. I do hope that the police are able to help.
Sorry to hear that Casey 🙁 Absolutely horrible!
how awful! Look after yourself xxx
Thank you for the kind words! Onwards and upwards I say 🙂
How awful Casey, but thanks for sharing with the wider blogging community. Hopefully things will be sorted out soon. Take Care of yourself. xx
Hey Kylie, you and me both, I am still shocked! Fingers crossed the police catch them!
Hi Su, thanks for stopping by and for your lovely words. I still can’t believe it myself and have no idea what has provoked it at all. I hope it helps everyone understand how important it is to stay safe online.
Holy shit Casey, that’s super crazy!! I can’t believe someone would do that! I hope the police find them and sort them out quick smart!
This is terrible! There are some awful people out there, I can’t believe they would personally attack you like that. Do you think perhaps it could be someone you know personally and that they are using the blog as a front so that they don’t get discovered? In any case, I hope this is the end of it for you. Stay safe!
Thanks Haley, I really hope this post does help bloggers and anyone online be a bit more careful as no one deserves to go through this xx
Thank you Michelle, your words really mean a lot to me and knowing the support and encouragement I have from our local community here in Perth as well as those further a field it’s mind blowing. So many lovely people out there. TY!
As an small event #VCMperth, I am always ashamed at the silliness some people get up to. There will always be a person for what ever their own personality fault is, will lash out at those who are just going forward with their own passion and love for what ever drives them. I just pop on the blinkers and not let it deter me. By moving forward, focused on your love, blogging, you will not let the nastiness dictate to you what you can and can not do. Keep blogging.
I’m so sorry to hear this, and how absolutely scary for you. The mind boggles why on earth someone would want to do this to you, and I hope it never happens again. Good on you for sharing, I know I’ll be being more careful from now on because of this. Kia Kaha x
Thanks for all your support Jamie, it means a lot!
Good on you for posting this, Casey!
Thanks Star, I’m doing a lot better and I still can’t believe what has happened. I finally got the guts to post this, as the police have said the more people who know, the better and hopefully it’ll help others stay safe x
:O This is so so so horrible and I hope you’re okay!
