Houghton Sparkling Classic Pinot Noir Chardonnay Cuvee BrutI picked this one up for a mere $16 at Chateau Guildford which is fairly cheap for a local bubbles. I think what first attracted me to this bottle was the lack of foil around the cork closure, I think this looks quite cool and funky. Plus it’s one less thing for me to worry about when opening the bottle.
The Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes used in this blend were grown in South Eastern Australia and the winemaker for this bubbles was Ed Carr. The grapes were harvested at night when the temperatures were a lot cooler and the grapes were pressed gently.
Tasting Note
A light straw colour on the eye with a flicker of green. On the nose it is like a big bowl of freshly made fruit salad with a touch of toast. It is very easy-drinking on the palate and quite interesting as you have the vibrant strawberry flavours coming through from the Pinot and then a refreshing citrus and creaminess coming through from the Chardonnay. Cheap and cheerful!
It is a light and fresh sparkling which would go very well to fresh seafood on Christmas day!
