The Best & Easiest Frosé Recipe (Frozen Rosé Wine Slushie)
It’s safe to say frosé has captured the taste buds of wine drinkers around the world in the past few months (including me). This frozen rosé wine slushie is the ultimate summer drink to quench thirst and show off your ‘cool’ status.
I’ve tried a few different frosé’s around Perth (The Urban List have put a great list together of where you can find frosé in Perth) however I wanted to enjoy some on Christmas Day so I figured it was time to master my homemade frosé recipe.
There are a number of recipes on the net for different styles of frosé however I couldn’t find any which suited my tastes and the kitchen equipment I have. Obviously I don’t have a slushie machine hanging around and I don’t even have a big blender – all I had at my disposal was a Kenwood hand blender.
On Christmas Eve after stocking up on potential frosé ingredients, Mr. Spittoon and I decided to have a ‘frosé-off’ to see who could come up with the ultimate homemade frosé recipe. We looked through a few recipes online and then altered these to come up with our own tasty versions. The below recipe we both really enjoyed and thought it trumped the others and funnily enough it was a joint effort for this recipe, so it looks like we both won!
It’s super simple and you can make it in a small blender or even if you don’t have a blender you could do it by hand. Plus you can pre-prep a whole lot and stock it up in your freezer and it’s also probably the quickest recipe you’ll find as you can cut down/out freezing time if needed.
The Lazy Girl’s/Guy’s Frosé Recipe
Frosé Ingredients:
- Rosé wine (see some specific wine recommendations at the bottom of this post)
- Sorbet (either a berry flavour or lemon works well)
Optional:
- Fresh berries or fruit (strawberries, raspberries, watermelon etc)
- Gin/Vermouth/Vodka
- Grenadine (for aesthetics if you want to make it a brighter shade of pink)
Frosé Method:
There are 2 ways you can make this delectable frosé recipe:
1. The Super Quick Way (either blend by hand or you can use a stick beater)
- Mix together sorbet and wine in bowl (or you can do it directly in your glass if the plan is to drink it straight away)
- Once thoroughly combined, pour into tray – the thinner the layer, the quicker it’ll freeze
- As you’re using sorbet and it’s already frozen, this cuts the setting time down considerably – if desired you can also drink it straight away if you’re happy with the consistency
2. The Longer Way (blender required for best consistency)
- Fill ice-cube tray up with rosé wine and let freeze
- Once frozen, add rosé cubes to blender with sorbet and any of the other ingredients you’d like (I added some strawberries and a few nips of gin which made it super tasty)
- Blend to desired consistency, if you find it too thick add some more wine or a shot or two of a spirit like gin to ‘water’ it down!
And lastly garnish with a funky straw or a piece of mint looks pretty cool too!
And there you have it! The above recipes are super simple and quick to make plus you can tailor them to suit your tastes. Mr. Spittoon preferred to stick with just the sorbet, rosé and a nip of spirits to give it a bit of a kick however I quite liked mine with some fresh strawberries. If you are adding strawberries try to get ones with small achenes (the seeds on the outside you can see) otherwise it can throw off the texture of the end product in my opinion.
