Grocery shopping always make thirsty, does this happen to anyone else? So seeing as I was at Coles I quickly popped into Liquorland and picked up this Houghton Wines 2019 Margaret River Chardonnay for $13 on special. Cheap, cheerful and the perfect way to satisfy my post-shopping thirst.
Here’s an outstanding Chardonnay for all my fellow Chardy lovers out there. Singlefile Wines in WA’s Great Southern region (Denmark to be exact) have recently released their flagship white wine, the 2017 ‘The Vivienne’ Denmark Chardonnay. It’s named after Co-Founder, Vivienne Snowden and is made in extremely small quantities and only in exceptional years.
Cabernet Franc is the ‘other Cabernet’ that you may hear less about, but it’s one tasty variety! It’s quite often blended in a Bordeaux style red blend, however it’s also vinified on its own like this Three Hills 2018 from Happs Wines in WA’s Margaret River region.
So this is how I spent my Shiraz Wine Day last night. I dipped into the cellar for this Gilbert Wines 2012 Reserve Shiraz which we bought from the cellar door in WA’s Great Southern back in 2017. And oh my, it’s drinking beautifully – you were right Clint!
You know you’ve got great neighbours when they give you a bottle of Woodlands 2012 ‘Margaret’ to drink. We popped it in the wine fridge (hence the snapshot from my OENO by Vintec cellar app) however it lasted all of 2 days in there before I had to hit that ‘consume’ button in the app.
“Pee-tee Vur-doe ” is how you pronounce the red wine grape. Petite Verdot. It’s commonly found in Bordeaux where winemakers add it to blends to enhance the colour, tannin and floral aromas in a wine.
