Pinot Gris is extremely popular in NZ compared to Aussie I’ve noticed. If you compare the PG section in an NZ supermarket (oh the normality of getting vino and food in the one shop) to an Aussie one, the latter is well smaller.
Personally I love a good Pinot Gris and there are some stunning Australian made ones. It is a white wine grape however the fruit is a greyish-pink colour which is why ‘Gris’ translates to ‘Grey’.
Did you know… Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio are the same grape variety? The different names refer to the different styles of wine this grape variety can be crafted into. Google it for more info.
This Tahbilk Winery 2018 Pinot Gris from Nagambie Lakes, Central Victoria (read more about the wineries of Victoria here) has just been released. It’s the second vintage of this wine and is drinking very well. Tahbilk expect it to be enjoyed from now until 2021. Here’s what I thought..
