Silverstream 2007 Reserve Merlot – Great Southern
Do you like aged wines? This Silverstream Wines Merlot is from 2007 which makes it 12 years old and boy it was tasting good when I tried it with Naomi recently!
It was grown using organic principles and prior to being released it spent 24 months in a mix of new and old oak. Naomi picked this one up for $35 at their cellar door in Denmark in WA’s Great Southern wine region earlier in the year. You can see some pictures from her visit at the bottom of this post.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one, it was definitely one of my highlights from raiding Naomi’s wine cellar.
Here are my notes:
Garnet shade in the glass. The nose makes me think of fruits of the forest, menthol/mint, capsicum and a sprinkling of white pepper. In the mouth it has a nice oomph of flavour and is surprisingly fresh for its age. It has a smooth texture and a dry tannin laced finish. Yum!
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!
