Side Gate Art Series 2018 Tempranillo – Adelaide Hills
In June I was lucky enough to be invited to the launch of Side Gate Wines new Art Series wine duo. The launch party took place at their Melbourne HQ and we had a fantastic night full of paella, cheese, music and art. Alongside great conversations of course. It was wonderful to meet the Orbach Family who produce a range of extremely affordable wines.
In the Art Series by Side Gate range is a straight Tempranillo and a Tempranillo + Pinot Noir blend. The grapes are sourced from the Adelaide Hills in South Australia.
The art on the range is by Melbourne painter Benjamin Aitken. Both bottles retail for $25 and can be purchased via the Side Gate website.
The team kindly gifted us a couple of bottles to takeaway. Which we stashed in the cellar. They lasted not even 2 months in there 🙂
So here are our notes on the 2018 Tempranillo (which by the way just picked up a gold medal at the Sydney Royal Wine Show!):
It’s a red magenta colour in the glass. After pouring a glass, straight away we could small the aromatics rising from the glass. Think juicy cherries, spice, vanilla and a bit of earthiness. While in the mouth we’re picking up candied plums and vanilla. It has light tannins and the finish leaves you wanting more. Fantastic with paella!
This wine was given to me as a sample from the winery. I was under no obligation to post about it.
