Eileen Hardy 2016 Shiraz – McLaren Vale
Have you met Eileen yet? Her favourite colour is blue and she’s the great matriarch of the Hardy’s family. This 2016 Shiraz is a tribute to Eileen Hardy and her significant contributions to the Hardys Wines.
A big thank you to the Hardy’s team for sending this sample my way, this bottle was definitely enjoyed! My Dad particularly loved it and helped me with the tasting note below.
The grapes for this Shiraz come from two old vine vineyards in McLaren Vale with an average age of over 70 years. It’s a Langtons Classified Shiraz which is on ‘another level’ as my Dad put it. It’s the good stuff you only share with the best company.
In the glass it’s nearly opaque with a deep black Doris plum shade to it. On the nose it’s elegant and refined with a depth of earthy warmness intertwined with oak, cherries, spice, leather and blackberries. Those flavours flow through to the palate where it’s full bodied with good tannin structure and a long lasting finish. It’s a venison, game or big hearty roast kind of red.
This wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!
