This Shaw Vineyard Estate 2016 Merlot has been matched with Chef Anthony Davis’s Kangaroo Fillet, King Brown Mushroom, Potato, Roast Beets and Merlot Jus in the Wine Selectors 2019 Calendar Collection Case.
This Merlot has picked up a ton of awards at national and international wine shows this year. And I can taste why.
In the glass, it’s a pretty shade of garnet. Smoked berries, cranberry acidity and smooth vanilla notes rose from the glass. It might be the time of year impacting my judgement, but it smells rather christmassy to me. Plum and cherry notes come through on the mouth with smooth and rather stocky tannins. It finishes with a nice long mouth puckering finish. Gorgeous tipple.
