How to get rid of Red Wine Stained Lips & Teeth – Wine Wipes
A couple of months ago I was approached by a company called Unwined Co who are the official distributor of Wine Wipes and Pearly Wipes in Australia. They sent me a few packs to try out and let them know what I thought.
I thought it would be a great idea to get more wine lovers involved so on my Facebook page I asked if anyone would like to trial them out in exchange for a short review. I had a great response and you can have a read through all the reviews below.
Of course I wanted to give them a go too, as I have struggled with the dreaded red wine lips, and I actually wrote a post on How to Avoid Red Wine Lips awhile ago. So Mr. Spittoon and I went out and brought the deepest red wines we could find and I was banned to go anywhere near my lip balm, water or food until the experiment was over. Yep I was only allowed wine, it was very difficult as you can imagine!
So what did I think? Personally, I think they’re great. They easily wiped the red wine stains off my lips without any force or hesitation. Would I use them again? Absolutely! I like how the orange blossom is to keep your lips in tip top shape during wine drinking and the peppermint is for afterwards. Of course it would come down to the cost of the wipes, which I am unsure of at this stage. If they’re wallet-friendly then I’ll absolutely be buying more to keep in my handbag!
So let’s see what everyone else thought…
Jasmine from Grape Tastes:
After downing a bottle of Shiraz between us, my partner and I both tried the orange blossom wipe first. The acetone-like aroma had me worried initially as I thought it would taste like nail polish remover however I was surprised that it didn’t have much flavour at all. It removed all of the wine stains on my lips, including in the cracks as my lips were quite dry. The boys’ lips also came up clean.
The mint flavoured wipe was nice smelling, it reminded me of an after dinner mint. This also took the stain off completely, however I preferred the orange blossom as the mint one left a minty taste on my mouth – fine is I were going to bed but not if I were continuing to drink wine. I would definitely been keen to buy the orange blossom wipes and always have one in my purse for dinner dates and at events such as weddings when my partner usually has a red and then has a stained mouth all evening.
Melissa from Eat Quaff Laugh:
In theory, I think that the wine wipes are a great idea, but in practice I don’t think they were so great. Firstly, I kept forgetting to trial them and that was just when I was drinking at home. I think if I was out at a restaurant or bar and was drinking, eating and having a good time, I would forget to use them even more. Also, at home, we tend to eat and drink, rather than just drink on its own, so rarely end up with red wine stained teeth and lips.
Last night we finally got around to using the wipes. I didn’t think the orange blossom water smelt or tasted overly orange blossomy and whether it really cleaned my lips and teeth, I’m not sure. Again, the peppermint wasn’t overly strong and I’m not sure it was particularly refreshing. At the end of a night of drinking I’d probably just be going home to brush my teeth and go to bed, or would prefer a tic tac or mint if I wanted fresh breath. My days of drinking and pashing are long gone! My husband didn’t like the orange blossom as he found it smelled ‘chemically’, tasted quite bitter, and was not refreshing like the usual middle eastern fragrance of orange blossom. He very much preferred the taste and scent of the peppermint, which he actually found quite pleasant.
Haley the Wineing Wife from Hungry for Wine:
I found the wipes fantastic! I find that I always get that red wine stain on just the inside of my lips, enough to give away that I’ve been on the red wine again. The wipes got rid of that without an issue. I found the flavours not overpowering on either of them, the orange blossom was very neutral and the mint made me feel like I had fresher breath (even though I’m sure didn’t). I think the wipes would be great to have on hand and I wouldn’t mind investing in some more.
Jac from Pantry in Suburbia:
I tried the orange blossom and peppermint flavoured wine wipes thanks to TC! I tried them after sharing a bottle of Tassel Park Shiraz with the fella, and we cut the wipes in half and used half of each, to test the flavour of them both – as neither of us really suffers much from red teeth (I would have to drink 2 bottles to get that effect!). The fella thought that the orange blossom wipes smelled like the ones you get at KFC, but I didn’t get that! The peppermint one smells how you expect it to smell, however with both of them, I found the aroma dissipated quite quickly, as did the flavour. By the time I had used the peppermint one and moved onto the orange wipe, there wasn’t a great deal of fragrance left. The flavours were also not very strong, I was surprised to find that with both of them, I could have a wine straight after without a huge amount of flavour left from the wipes. I think, again, any flavour that I was getting from the peppermint wipe, which I tried first, was gone pretty fast, and the orange one was the same. The fella didn’t really think they tasted like anything at all. So if you’re a red teeth sufferer and you’re concerned these will mess with the flavour of your wine, fear not! They aren’t strongly flavoured, I think whatever’s in them is fragrance and not flavour.
Sandra:
I was so looking forward to trying your wipes, love the sound of them and also loved the sound of the peppermint and orange. When I tried them I was very disappointed which is a shame as they are a great idea, firstly they are too small and secondly I could not smell the scent of ether the peppermint or orange but the scent was a vinegar smell, which is not a refreshing nor complementing experience. Thank you for allowing me to be one of the first to trial them, but I’m sorry they are not something I’d buy the way they are now. If you improved them I’d be interested to try them again.
A huge thank-you to everyone above who played the role of guinea pig and contributed to this post. Also thank-you to Unwined Co for the samples, I hope to see them on the shelves in Perth soon!
