Dinner & Alcohol Delivered to Your Door via Menulog Online Takeaways
Recently I was approached by the Menulog marketing team to see if I’d be keen to try out their service and share my experience with you all in exchange for a $30 voucher. Being a big fan of dining in, but not cooking or doing dishes (we have no dishwasher) I thought this would be a great way to try something new as we typically opt for fush’n’chups or Dominos with my beloved cheesy crust.
When it gets to Friday night, I am normally so exhausted from the week that all I want to do is chill in front of the TV with a good movie. The ONLY thing I want my brain to be thinking about at this stage of the week is what wine I should be opening to celebrate the start of the part of the week we all love the most, the weekend.
I spent some time on the Menulog site to see what it could do and more specifically what it could offer me. The site is pretty straight forward, you pop your postcode or suburb in on the first page and then it’ll give you a list of restaurants who deliver in your area. Or you do have the option to pick up, so you can look further a field if you have a certain craving that needs to be satisfied/you want to pick something up on your way home from work or an outing.
As I didn’t know what I felt like on this particular night, it was great to browse through the restaurants in my area. I was able to check out the menus, opening times, location, minimum order spend, if there were any specials on and reviews on the food and speed of delivery. I could also easily refine my searches by cuisines, specials, payment method (PayPal was in there too!) and opening times.
What i found super interesting was the Alcohol Takeaway Restaurants section. This literally means you can order dinner, plus wine or beer straight to your door! How awesome is that! It’s perfect for those times when you forgot to go to the bottle shop that day or maybe you don’t have a decent wine to match the meal you’re about to order. GENIUS!!
However the sad thing is, that Menulog Perth only have 1 restaurant who offers this service and that’s Canton Bay Chinese Restaurant & Bar. I have nothing against Chinese food in Perth, however sadly they don’t deliver to my suburb. They deliver to a good few suburbs though, so you may just be one of the lucky ones. The alcohol delivery selection is pretty decent too. Six packs of beer start from around $15, cider from $18 a 6-pack, pre-mixed drinks from $25 a 6-pack, bottles of rum, gin, vodka, whisky etc from $35 and bottles of wine from $14. The list is legendary!
They just need more options so we can all enjoy this great service! You can check out all the Perth listings here.
However I ended up ordering from Hot Rocks Pizza in Bassendean. Thankfully I always have a good stash of wine at home, as the hardest drink I could pick up from Hot Rocks was Pepsi Max… Ooooo Yeah! Ordering online was easy, I just popped in my debit card details and then I was sent both an email confirmation and sms confirmation letting me know the estimated time of delivery.
The food was delivered 10 minutes earlier than the expected time, which ended up taking about 40 minutes from the time of order. Not too bad considering it was a Saturday night.
Would I order again? From Hot Rocks Pizza, probably no, even though it was a good deal the pizza quality didn’t quite live up to my high expectations of pizza. I swear once you eat pizza in Italy, it ruins you for eating pizza anywhere else!
However, I would probably order from Menulog again. I found it easy to use and there were a good variety of restaurants around me that delivered. I’ll definitely be ordering from Canton Bay at some point from a friend’s place as I think it would be so much fun to order your takeaways and wine for the night!
