Oakover 2020 Swan Valley Chardonnay
I was lucky enough to recently receive some new release media samples from the team at Oakover Wines in Perth’s Swan Valley (thank you!!). And naturally I went straight for the Chardonnay.
As you may know, the Swan Valley is always going to be close to my heart after living on its doorstep a few years ago. Perth is so lucky to have a wine region literally only about 25 minutes from the CBD!
The Oakover vineyards were initially established in the 1850s, so it’s safe to say there’s a bit of history behind these wine labels. They are located on Great Northern Highway and have a fantastic cellar door that’s definitely worth a visit.
Fun fact For the 2020 vintage, it was the earliest on record that the Swan Valley has ever started to pick the grapes. This was due to a very mild winter in 2019 which led to an early start for the growing season.
In the glass this 2020 Chardonnay is a pale yellow shade and has notes of vanilla citrus, fresh herbs and nectarines & peaches rising up from the glass. In the mouth it’s super fresh and fruity. It really is a bright, young Chardy that refreshes and quenches the thirst.
This wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!
