Handpicked Wines Cabernet Sauvignon – Margaret River
I’ve been so excited about cracking into these 2 samples from Handpicked Wines – thank you!! The plan of attack was to taste them side by side and enjoy an evening of Margaret River Cabs.
On the right we have the Regional Selections 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon ($25) and on the left is the Collection 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon ($70) which received a 95 from Halliday Wine Companion.
Handpicked Collection 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon
It’s a garnet shade in the glass with a wonderfully vibrant nose of berries, leather and vanilla oak. It’s one of those wines I could just sit and smell all night, so yummy. In the mouth it has a satin-like texture with flavours of black fruits, coffee beans and vanilla. The tannins at the back of the palate suggest it could go longer in the cellar. Absolutely scrumptious to the point that Mr Spittoon and I argued over the last bit in the bottle 🙂
Handpicked Regional Selections 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon
It’s a plum red purple colour in the glass. The nose is more intense than the 13 and not as smoothed out yet it’s highly enticing. There’s black fruits with dark chocolate and a bit of liquorice in there. While in the mouth there’s black cherries and berries with meaty tannins. This one will definitely develop over the next few years. We ended up aerating it to smooth it out further.
A yummy delve into Margaret River Cabs! Thanks again Handpicked!
This wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.
