Drinking wine on airplanes
I don’t about all of you but I just love that feeling of getting buckled into a flying bird with a headset in one hand a plastic glass of grape in the other – ok not the most romantic situation, but who can beat that feeling of the start of a holiday.
So here are some tips to get the most out of drinking vino at a high altitude;
1. The ability of persuasion – if you are able to wangle a free upgrade out of the ground staff you are definitely on the right track.
2. Drink lots of water!! We all know that planes dehydrate you – but did you know that dehydration can cause you to lose up to 30% of your sense of smell which as we know is a valuable tool in wine tasting.
3. The small plastic glasses are not only shouting ‘please spill me all over your white top’ but they definitely don’t do much for the flavour of the wine. There are a ton of plastic glasses on the market now so perhaps pre-flight you can go on a mission to find the best plastic glass to drink wine from. However you will risk looking like an utter wine ponse pulling out your own plastic glass on the plane! What we do for love 😉
4. Do your research on what airlines have the best selection!! Rumor has it; FinnAir, Delta and Continental are not bad. I am flying Singapore Air in a couple of weeks so I I’ll let you know…
However after reading the article “Singapore Airlines To Serve Rare Red Burgundy Variety In Suites and First Class” I am really hoping my powers of persuasion work.
