Clutch recently reached out to me to see if we’d be keen to experience a bit of Clutch in our glasses, and well, I couldn’t say no. These guys are based in Adelaide, however I have to admit the wine was delivered quick smart to us here in Victoria. And well, just look at the delicious selection we received below! This here is The Dinner Party Pack for $80:
On the far left, that’s Vinum in Amphorae 2018 ‘La Venezia’ – a skin contact, aka orange wine made from Pinot Gris in Victoria’s King Valley. It’s sustainably farmed, spent 8 months on skins in Italian Amphora (aka terracotta) and it’s bloody delicious. I loved it and ended up not sharing the last half of the bottle. Ooops!
Next up is a French Pinot Noir – 2019 Les Deux Moulins Pinot Noir. It’s from the Loire Valley, made organically and has a delicious mixture of savoury herbs and bright red fruits. It had me longing for more French pinot in my glass, that’s for sure.
And last but not least we had the vivacious NV Unico Zelo ‘Harvest’ Blanc de Blanc. Beign already familiar with this sustainable Adelaide Hills producer, I knew I was going to be treated to something delicious. It’s made from 100% Chardonnay and tastes like almond croissants and lemon curd. Dry and the perfect aperitif for a good night.
Now we have talked about the wine, let’s get to know Clutch 😉 I asked Henri Lemos – the National Sales Manager for Clutch a few questions so we can learn a bit more about who we are buying from:
What is the story behind Clutch Wine?
Clutch is a sister business of Acacia, Specialty Cafe, in Henley Beach SA.
The passion for wines and hospitality were the key driving aspects in the creation of Clutch. A joy for discovering new producers, countries with an interesting taste profile of well-known varieties. Most importantly bringing people together through having a good time and exploring the world of wine.
Our focus is on professional, fast delivery paired with interesting and high-quality products.
Clutch is an online platform as well as trade wine sales in South Australia which is managed by Elisa Mercurio.
Why ‘Clutch’ – where does the name come from/what does it stand for?
Clutch is a very important part of an engine when it comes to automotives. So we went for the name for the same reason. There are so many great wineries around the globe and we want to be their ‘Clutch’ and connect all these great wineries with as many customers as we can.
How would you describe your selection of wine?
Focused on small batches and minimal intervention producers around the world. As we see more and more small producers making amazing wines and they are making history in the wine industry. Pushing the boundaries and making interesting and exciting wines. The biggest part being minimal intervention wines but we also have some more traditional winemaking as long as the wines are well made.
Most of our wine selection focuses on minimal intervention wines but we also have some more traditionally made wines – that have been made incredibly well and we just had to share them with you.
What sets Clutch apart from other online wine retailers? Why should we buy from you?
Everyday there is a new online retailer. And it can be quite difficult for a newcomer to be set apart from the rest.
That being said, we focus on small international wineries unlike other online wine shops. As for Australian wines, we have a vast collection but stick to small and rare wines. We keep back vintages and release these when most of the others won’t have them anymore. So we can do the cellaring for you and you can buy it when it’s perfect to drink.
We also deliver 7 days a week and off same day in the Adelaide Metro Area. Our interstate delivery is fast as we use FreightHub – a beverage specialised courier.
We also offer wine subscriptions as well as one-off purchases. Although it’s worth mentioning that our subscribers get a bit of a discount 😉
Alongside this, we offer corporate tasting for business upon request in Adelaide.
If you could only drink one wine from your range for the rest of your life, which one would it be and why?
I am very similar to wine. I am always changing my tasting profile.
I would pick 2019 Eric Goypieron Chardonnay – Jura – FRA.
It is an epic small producer from such a great region. Organic producers with very minimal SO2 added.
It’s an all round wine. Full Body but fresh. Buttery by finesse. Nutty but the right amount. Citrus finish rounded with nuances of vanilla. It is a journey through the well known region for expressive and unique wines.
Can be enjoyed all 4 seasons. It’s drinking fabulous now and will only benefit within next 10+ years.
Thank you Henri and guys and gals, make sure to visit Clutch Wine today!
