Champagne Devaux Grande Reserve
As we live about 3 hours from Melbourne airport, we typically stay at the Park Royal Melbourne Airport Hotel if we have an early flight. It takes the stress out of worrying about the traffic and being on time for our flight.
Naturally, we also like to enjoy a few drinks at the start of a holiday too and therefore before our recent trip to Thailand we stopped at Dan Murphy’s on our way to the hotel to pick up a couple of bottles of champagne to enjoy in our room which looked back towards Melbourne city.
We enjoyed this bottle alongside a bottle of Joseph Perrier Champagne Brut and both Mr Spittoon and my taste buds leant more to this one. Which was the cheaper of the two at $40. I guess that makes us both cheap dates 😉
In the glass, it’s a starry yellow shade. On the nose there are hints of croissants and Christmas pudding – think plums and peaches with honey and mixed spice. In the mouth, it’s fruity and vibrant yet smooth and rather elegant. Think pastry, citrus, pears, and a hint of honeyed/caramelised apples. From my descriptors, it sounds sweet but it’s dry, just fruit forward. Great value at $40.
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!
