Aylesbury Estate 2017 The Pater Series Cabernet Sauvignon
I love sharing my wine with people who are really going to appreciate it. Does anyone else have certain wines they share with some people and not with others?
Guilty!
I know my Dad loves his big red wines, especially his Aussie Cabs. Which is why I recently took this lovely Aylesbury Estate 2017 ‘The Pater Series’ Cabernet Sauvignon from WA’s Ferguson Valley sample bottle with me to NZ to enjoy with him.
The Pater Series is a celebration of the Gibbs family who moves to the Ferguson Valley over 140 years ago. Since then, their 22 hectare vineyard has remained in the family and has now been passed down 5 generations.
“Pater is Latin for Father, and this series is a tribute to the five generations of fathers and their rare unbroken chain of succession.”
The wine is made from only the best grapes and…
- 20 months French oak
- Cellar: 10+ years
- Winemaker: Luke Eckersley
- $55
In the glass we found it a deep garnet red shade. On the nose it makes us think of a cigar room (nice comment Mum!) mixed with vanilla oak, aniseed, blackberries, cloves and star anise spice. It’s not shy on the palate with a full body, lick your teeth flavour (nice comment Dad!), elegant tannins and a really long, delicious finish. Think leather, black doris plums and fruits of the forest. Definitely a fantastic steak wine!
This wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.
