10 Reasons You Have to go to an Upper Reach Twilight Concert
It’s that time of year again! Every February & March local Swan Valley winery, Upper Reach hold a number of Twilight Concerts on their lawn. It’s an evening full of music, picnics and of course wine. As the team at Upper Reach say, ‘what happens on the lawn, stays on the lawn’.
A big thanks to Upper Reach for inviting Mr. Spittoon and I along this year and also for supplying a double pass for a lucky TC reader to win (check out the bottom of this post for details on how to win).
We have been along to an Upper Reach Twilight Concert for the last 3 years and we have had a ball every year! This year we went to their first concert last weekend ‘Nueva Salsa’ with some friends and let’s just say the wine was definitely flowing. It’s the first concert we’ve been to that people were up and dancing within the first few songs!
We were also excited for our brand new picnic hamper to make its debut. We received it as a wedding gift from my lovely team mates at my day job – such a gorgeous hamper which they got from Nosh Gourmet in Victoria Park. Every year I aim to cook up a storm so we can take homemade goodies to munch on while enjoying wine from the cellar door, but then every year it ends up being chips, bread, dips, cheese and fruit from the supermarket!
We always take a picnic blanket so we can sit up the front on the lawn, the first half of the lawn is reserved for those just with picnic blankets and the second half is for those with chairs. You can also book a table at Broads Restaurant and enjoy a 2-course dinner for $99pp.
Ok enough of my blabbing, so if you’re still not convinced that you need to get to one of the remaining concerts this year, here’s why you should:
1. Your supporting local musicians, a winery & restaurant
What I love about WA and Perth is that you guys are so behind your local businesses. And the feeling is contagious, yes I am a Kiwi, but while I live in WA, I will be supporting all the local businesses as much as possible. If that means I have to drink all the local wine, then I will do it!
2. A good excuse for a picnic
I don’t know if it’s just a female thing, but I LOVE picnics. Mr. Spittoon could take them or leave them but it’s one of my favourite things to do. Plus it means I can use my picnic wine glass sticks which were super handy this year!
3. An amazing spot to capture sunset vineyard pictures
Come on, we all have to admit it – sunset photos can be pretty spectacular. When they are over a vineyard, even better in my opinion. The lawn area at Upper Reach is the perfect spot to capture that gorgeous WA sunset over the vines – with a wine in hand of course.
4. It’s a fabulous date night/girls night/friends get-together
The last 2 years Mr. Spittoon and I went by ourselves and I have to admit it made for an awesome date night – a little wine, some food and a bit of dancing – I was putty in his hands 🙂 This year we went with a group of friends and had a fad time. They brought some goodies in their chilly bin, we had our picnic hamper and we shared nibbles, wine and good times.
5. Wine at cellar door prices
Yep the prices are definitely not hiked at these events and also Upper reach typically have some great deals for take-home wine. It definitely beats going to a gold class cinema and paying $40 for what you know is a $20 wine!
6. This is the 14th year
That’s right, this is the 14th year Upper Reach have been running these concerts so it’s safe to say they have everything sorted and know how to make sure you have one heck of a time.
7. Adam Hall
Adam Hall has been part of the Twilight Concert series for probably about 11 years now. He definitely knows how to get the crowd up and dancing and really amp the vibe up at Upper Reach. If you can make it to one of the concerts he is a part of, then I am sure you won’t be disappointed! Excuse my shotty video skills below!
8. General admission tickets are only $39
$39 for a concert is pretty darn good if you ask me. Plus the dinner and concert deal at Broads Restaurant is fantastic as the $99pp gets you general admission + your two courses and the premium seats!
9. You can make a night of it
Why not make it a full weekend affair! Upper Reach Winery have a cottage on the property which you can book for the night or for a few nights. This way no one needs to be worried about driving, just the 2 minute walk from the lawn to the cottage. It’s such a lovely cottage to base yourself in to explore the Swan Valley area!
10. “What happens on the lawn, stays on the lawn”
Leave all your inhabitations at the gate and make sure you get up and dance! There’s no judgement at Upper Reach and trust me, after a few wines and the suave tunes, you won’t be able to stop yourself from getting up to dance!
So there you have it folks – there are so many reasons to go to one of this years’ Twilight Concerts but at the end of the day, it’s just a bloody fun night!
