Wild Rock Infamous Goose 09 Sauvy & KFC
Having grown up basically living on the beach in New Zealand, being by the ocean always reminds me of home no matter where I am in the world. The other day I headed off for a dive off the East Coast of the UAE, Khor Fakken to be exact. Okay so the water temperature (27c) wasn’t exactly reminiscent of home, especially since I was 21meters deep – but it must of been the salt air, sunshine and general outdoorsy happiness that made me reminiscent of home!
So to top off a great day of wreck diving (see some pics below) and of course being completely buggered the only preparation I had made for dinner was popping a bottle of vino in the fridge – number one priority. After not much deliberation with my waistband it was off to pick-up some KFC to go with our bottle of Wild Rock Infamous Goose Sauvignon Blanc 2009.
Now its typical to read about how well Sauternes will match with your foie gras but how about KFC??? Wow do I have news for all you fellow KFC devourers – especially if you like the spicy chicken!
The Wild Rock Infamous Goose Sauvy 2009 was a brilliant aperitif, it stood well on its own – however its subtle limey zing set alit your hunger buds like no tomorrow. It would be a beautiful wine with any salad or delicious seafood dish but I have to admit if I was having it again I would opt for my KFC option – it went superbly with the coleslaw, mash n gravy, fries and even the spicy chicken!
The wine is pale lemon with a green tinge in appearance and as well as having all those limey, grassy and fresh herb characteristics at the same time your getting a little dash of gooseberry, passion fruit and tropical fruit sweetness. Its fresh, mouthwatering and light in the mouth – making a perfect match for the spicy and greasiness of the KFC.
Paying only around US$11 over here in the UAE I found it a great deal as most NZ Sauvy’s are over the US$20 mark here. All up it was a cheap, cheerful, easy meal that hit the spot after a great day out on the water.
