The Fabulous New Windy Creek Winery Cellar Door – Swan Valley

Windy Creek Winery in the Swan ValleyDon’t you love being in the right place at the right time? Well thank-fully for me, some good friends just so happened to stumble across the official opening of the newly renovated Windy Creek Estate cellar door in the Swan Valley on Sunday 19th of March 2017 and sent me a message to let me know.

Mr. Spittoon and I were actually on our way back from the Perth Hills so we decided to skip the grocery shopping and instead pop over to Windy Creek! Wine over food right?

The new cellar door has been in the planning since ‘New Years Eve 2001’!  I have to admit the hard work has definitely paid off! Windy Creek undoubtedly have an amazing view (their vineyard is about 55 acres I believe) and now plenty of people can soak this up from the wonderfully roomy cellar door (with a gorgeous long wooden tasting bench) or from the lovely outside patio area. The roses accentuate the greenness of the vineyard right now and I loved the view of the big stainless steel vats off to the side. So picturesque!

The new cellar door is such a beautiful addition to a wonderful Swan Valley winery that are known for their awesome fortifieds (I think it was their ‘white port’ which was the very first SV wine I heard about when I got to Perth!), affordable wines and top-notch customer service.

Okay so enough babbling, let’s take a look at it….

Here’s some of my pics before the new cellar door:

Here’s the lovely speech Tony & Ruth said at the opening in classic Windy Creek fashion (hopefully he doesn’t hate me for recording and publishing it) ;)

10 Reasons Why You Need to Visit Windy Creek:

  • Windy Creek have been making wine for over 80 years!
  • At the 2016 Singapore Airlines Swan Valley Wine Show they picked up a Gold medal alongside 7 others medals
  • Tony & Ruth Cobanov run the winery with their 3 sons Joshua, Callum and Roha (who I hear also had a big hand in helping with the new cellar door)
  • Tony is a third generation winemaker  – the winery was established by his Great Grandfather, Anthony Cobanov in 1937
  • If you’re a fan of Tyler’s Vineyard then you may find he’s helped produce a few of their reds and fortifieds ;)
  • Windy Creek produce wines from the following grape varietals; Verdelho, Vermentino, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Shiraz, Grenache, Cabernet, Merlot, Pedro Ximénez & Muscat
  • Windy Creek sometimes have up to 20 different wines to try
  • Tastings at the cellar door are free!

  • They’re off the beaten track – yep they’re not directly on Great Northern Highway or West Swan Road so you can enjoy your wine tasting minus the traffic

Tasting Notes

Here’s the wines that I have tried recently from Windy Creek Estate..

It’s been in the planning since 2001 and finally the new Windy Creek cellar door is open! Naturally the opening was a good excuse to pop by and stock up – we grabbed this 2016 Verdelho for $12! You can check out the new cellar door on the blog -> So what’s it like? Firstly it teams with a bubble bath & good book perfectly ? On the eye it’s a light yellow with a slight green tint. The nose is very grassy and herbaceous with hints of guava coming though. On the palate it’s easy drinking and definite value for money with pineapple, passion fruit and lemon flavours sticking out for me. All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy! #tcweekdaywine #tctastingnotes
