Whicher Ridge 2016 Whitetail Sparkling Chardonnay
Happy 2020 everyone! I hope you’re planning on have a wine-filled year!
Naturally we had to see the new year in with a fantastic bottle of bubbles and this Whicher Ridge Wines 2016 Whitetail Sparkling Chardonnay from WA’s Margaret River definitely hit the mark. Start the year as you’re meant to go on, as they say!
A big thanks to Cathy and Neil who sent over this new release sample for us to try. I’ve long been a big fan of Whicher Ridge so I knew this bottle of bubbles wouldn’t last long unopened.
If you are heading south from Perth, make sure you pop their cellar door in Chapman Hill (20 minute drive from Busselton) on your to do list – you won’t regret it trust me! You have to stop to see the Wine Sensory Garden – winos, foodies and gardeners will love it!
This ‘Whitetail’ is named after the endangered whitetail black cockatoos which regularly visit the property – if you’re lucky you may spot one on your visit.
Mr Spittoon and I had a pretty chilled new year which consisted of bubbles and homemade pizza. It was just the relaxed type of day that I felt like to see in the new decade. Here are our thoughts on the wine:
In the glass it’s a lemon-lime colour with super fast moving bubbles. On the nose it makes me think of melon and bananas with a spritz of citrus, perhaps a little lanolin and some creamy vanilla oak. While in the mouth there’s a zip of lemon sherbet, a bite of stonefruit (apricot perhaps) and the bubbles are really fine and creamy. It’s a complex and intriguing bubbles with a deliciously moreish finish.
You can purchase this beauty at the cellar door or online via whicherridge.com.au for $40.
This wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!
