Trentham Estate 2019 The Family Pinot Grigio
Do you know the difference between Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris? It’s like Shiraz and Syrah. They are both made from the same grape variety however the producer decides to choose either Pinot Grigio or Pinot Gris based on the style they are making. The Italian version (Grigio) is a light and crisp style, while the French version (Gris) tends to be more full-bodied and richer. Both Grigio and Gris mean ‘grey’ because the grapes on the vine tend to be a greyish-blue/pink colour. So there you go 🙂
Trentham Estate have just released their new look Italian range – The Family and this 2019 Pinot Grigio ($18) is part of that series. Also in Trentham’s The Family range is a Prosecco, Vermentino, Moscato, Sangiovese Rose, Nero d’Avola, Nebbiolo and Frizzante Maestri. A big thank you to Trentham for sending me over a few samples to taste! Receiving these kinds of wines is always a great excuse for pizza and pasta nights!
So what did we think of this 2019 Pinot Grigio? Here are our notes:
It’s a pale yellow shade in the glass. The nose made me think of tangy apple lollies, lemon citrus and fresh flowers. While in the mouth it has plenty of nice lemon and lime acidity, juicy pears and a nice smooth mouthfeel.
This wine was sent to me from the winery as a sample. I was under no obligation to post about it.
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!
