My Top Wine Finds in October 2014 – Sparkling Happiness
Another month gone, boy that flew by!! I can’t believe it is Christmas next month and soon enough it will be 2015. So many wines, so little time!
As you will know I have a slight weakness for Champagne and sparkling wine, and this is most definitely the season out of them all for bubbles as it’s just so darn festive. So below you will notice I have gone a bit bubbles crazy, however they are all great wines that I have come across in terms of quality and price. We all love a bargain don’t we!
So if you do happen to come across a goodie, make sure to leave a comment either here or on my Facebook page so that we can all hunt it out. There are so many great wines out there, I just need more time to find them all, which is where you guys come in! Plus you can also use the #TCWeekdayWine tag so I can like and share your tasty find with all my followers too.
So here are some of my fave wines which I tasted in October 2014..
Champagne Perrier-Jouët 2006 ‘Belle Epoque’
from Épernay, France
$220 at Dan Murphy’s and it comes with two hand painted champagne flutes + a vase!
It was the perfect way to celebrate an anniversary if you ask me (and the perfect gift, thank you Mr.Spittoon), I am one lucky girl! On the eye it’s a yellow with a slight touch of tangerine. It has super-duper tiny bubbles which are zipping up the glass at great speed. On the nose it smelt like a baked fruit pie with a super buttery croissant on the side. In the mouth it’s full-bodied with flavours of fresh apples, custard & a refreshing lemon citrus zest on the finish. Surprisingly short finish. Fantastic aperitif! This bottle is definitely being kept for a vase!
Guerrieri Rizzardi Prosecco Extra Dry from Veneto, Italy
$27.95 from the Perth Champagne Club
I received this from the Perth Champagne Club and I must say it’s probably one of the best Prosecco’s I’ve had in a long time! Silver gold on the eye. Aromas of juicy pear, citrus and dried herbs. On the palate it’s super fresh and refreshing, lovely and dry yet a nice balance of fruit and acidity. Very pleasant!
Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte France Chouilly Brut Réserve
from France
The lovely Mr.Spittoon picked this up for about $42 for me to enjoy on Global #ChampagneDay. Considering I was drinking it out of a silver flute I can’t comment on the colour of this bubbly but the aromas are of poached pear, crackers and a touch of Camembert cheese. On the palate is smooth and easy drinking, flavours of citrus pastries and supper fresh apples.
Jen Pfeiffer Rock it Like a Redhead 2014 ‘The Rebel’ Sauvignon Blanc from Victoria, Australia
This arrived in my special introductory $45 mixed case from Naked Wines Australia.
I got this bottle in my latest (and first) Naked Wines Australia purchase, so far I’m impressed! Great value, quick delivery and so far nice wine. Now for this Redhead… Wow before I even went to analyse the colour the nose completely threw itself out of the glass at me. It’s intensely aromatic with scents of kiwifruit, passionfruit, snow peas and lemongrass! Oh la la! Who cares what it looks like with a nose like that right? I was also a bit impatient so the bottle wasn’t super cold which will have helped the aromas strut their stuff. In the mouth it’s fresh, fruity & delish. A great accompaniment to my Thai spiced oven baked salmon. Such a bargain from Naked Wines!
Tyler’s Vineyard Blush Grenache 2011 from the Swan Valley, Western Australia
$18 from the cellar door in the Swan Valley.
Beautiful golden-peach colour on the eye. Aromas of peach, flint, creaminess and bbq grapefruit. On the palate it is has a buttery texture with lovely red fruit hints and refreshing finish. Perfect for summer! As the Tyler’s produce the fruit only, Swan Valley winemaker Karen Holper made this wine for the Tyler’s.
