Taltarni The Patron 2016 Cabernet Shiraz
We finally were able to catch up with some family on the weekend in real life instead of just on FaceTime (thanks COVID 🙁 ). Therefore I knew we had to have some extra special to accompany our lunch.
The wonderful folks at Taltarni Vineyards here in Victoria sent us this sample bottle (thank you!).
Taltarni are based in the Pyrenees region and this here is their iconic flagship wine – The Patron. Everything about this wine from the contents to its packaging oozes elegance.
The Patron 2016 is a Cabernet (51%) Shiraz (48%) specially selected from 50-year old vines. It spends 24 months maturing in 60% new French oak barriques prior to being released. It can be purchased online or via the cellar door. Single bottles come in a fancy black box as pictured and 6-bottle purchases come in a fire-branded wooden gift box.
And wow it’s a stunner. From the deep dark cherry colour in the glass to the smooth velvety aromas of black peppered berries, sweet tobacco and cassis. While in the mouth it’s juicy and concentrated with a nice long cherry and berry filled finish. It’s pure sophistication in a bottle!
This wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!
