The wineries of Tasmania have long been on my wine travel bucket list. Why? Because for one, everyone I know who has visited Tassie (this is what the locals call Tasmania) has loved it. And secondly, I love my Sparkling Wine and Chardonnay – which is what this cool-climate grape-growing area does very well. Plus I am also quite partial to my Pinot Noir which they do equally well. We visited the Velo Wines cellar door on our trip to Tassie in April. Velo are located in the Tamar Valley, just out of Launceston in northern Tasmania. We actually popped in twice, as we wanted to drop off our box of wine to send back to Gippsland, although this was going to cost more than taking it as extra luggage on the plane, so we decided against it.
