Guess what Australia?? SAYV – the newest argon wine preserver is now available in Dan Murphy’s nationwide and it’s only $5!
It is the most affordable way to preserve a bottle of wine once it has been opened. And you know what? It is so bloody easy to use as well!
It can be used on red, white, rose or sparkling wine. For sparkling wine, you will of course need a good quality champagne stopper as well. Hot tip: Buy a bottle of Georg Jensen Hallmark Cuvée which comes with a good quality free stopper! We have a handful of these stoppers and use them all the time + the bubbles is pretty good too!

And the question is, does it really work?
Now let’s delve into what exactly SAYV is and how it works:
What is SAYV made from?
SAYV is 100% argon gas. Argon is an inert gas which means it doesn’t combine or blend with anything else. It is a gas which sits on top of the wine and keeps the oxygen away from it. As it is heavier than oxygen it creates a lovely safe blanket for the wine. After all, it is oxygen which is what will turn your wine bad and into vinegar.
“Through 6,500 years of wine making, keeping opened wine from deteriorating has been a problem. Ironically, the solution was right before us in the form of an inert gas called argon.”
Decanter Magazine
Is Argon safe?
Absolutely! Argon gas is completely harmless to both people and wine. It is completely tasteless and colourless.
“Because argon is heavier than oxygen, it can act as a protective layer for wine, preventing the very reactive oxygen from interacting with the wine and causing oxidation.”
Wine Spectator Magazine
How long can SAYV preserve wine for?
It has the potential to keep wine fresh for days, weeks and even months. An exact date cannot be given as it really comes down to the type of wine, how old it is, how it is stored and numerous other factors. The key to keeping your wine as long as possible with SAYV is to insert the gas into the bottle and replace the bottle closure as soon as possible. You then want to store the bottle in an upright position in a wine fridge or your normal refrigerator.
How many bottles can SAYV preserve?
The 60ml cans of SAYV can preserve up to 15 bottles if you stick to the one second per bottle rule.
Can you use SAYV on a wine more than once?
Yes you can, if you want to enjoy the bottle over various nights/weeks. The same rules apply as the first time. After pouring your glass, you’ll then need to add more gas and pop it back in the fridge upright.
How do you use SAYV?
It is so easy to use! Literally follows these steps:
- Remove the tube from inside the cap of the SAYV can.
- Attach the tube to the top of the can.
- Open your bottle of wine and pour your wine as quickly as possible.
- Now insert the tube into the bottle of wine, as close to the surface of the wine as possible and spray for one second.
- Remove the SAYV can and replace your screw cap, cork or wine bottle stopper back onto the bottle as quickly as possible.
- Place your SAYV-d bottle into your wine fridge or refrigerator in an upright position until you’re ready to enjoy it again.
Too easy! And if you’re like me, then you may want to use a wine bottle writer pen to note down on the bottle when you opened and SAYV-d the wine.
You can purchase SAYV online or in-store at Dan Murphy’s in Australia.
