The 25 Swan Valley Sparkling Wines of Christmas 2014 – 1st December
Pinelli Estate 2013 Sparkling Juliet
“Sparkling wine is the perfect drink to celebrate a special occasion with good friends and family. Enjoy with some of WA’s fresh seafood and make a good time a great time ”
– Daniel Pinelli, Winemaker.
Pinelli’s Sparkling Juliet is a Blanc de Blanc style bubbles (which translated from French to English means ‘white of white’ to signify that it’s only made from a white grape variety).
It’s made from the Chardonnay grape which is whole-bunch pressed and hand-picked in the Swan Valley. It sells for $26 per bottle which you can buy at the cellar door (address at bottom of post) or on the Pinelli website.
Tasting Note
On the eye it’s like a beautiful glass of sparkling yellow diamonds with small streams of bubbles. A lovely aroma profile on the nose of flowers, almonds and citrus fruits. On the palate it’s rather toasty with flavours of bbq grapefruit and banana with a refreshing blood orange zing! I think it would make a lovely aperitif and it would be perfect to sip on whilst opening presents! I’m also a big fan of the label, super gorgeous and in a way it looks very Christmassy which would be just perfect for the Christmas lunch table.
Christmas special

About Pinelli Estate in the Swan Valley
Pinelli Estate is located just off Benara Road near the Benara Rd and West Swan Road intersection. I love visiting the estate as they plant gorgeous red roses at the end of their vines, when in bloom it is simply stunning and very romantic! The roses actually have a purpose, other than just to look pretty. They are planted so the winemaking team can spot early signs of disease or pests which may attack the vines. Smart thinking!
Beside the cellar door is an absolutely lovely wee spot for lunch or dinner, which goes by the name of Fillaudeau’s Restaurant Cafe. This is a favourite spot for date night with Mr. Spittoon and myself (link to my posts below on dining and tasting at Pinelli). The customer service at both the cellar door and Fillaudeau’s is always top-notch!
The estate was established in 1980 by Domenic and Iolanda Pinelli who emigrated to Western Australia from Italy in the 1950’s so you will notice the Italian touch at Pinelli to signify their heritage. Today the winery is run by 2nd generation sons Robert and Daniel.
Daniel Pinelli, takes care of the winemaking and he actually received the Domain Chandon award for the Best Sparkling Wine while he was a winemaking student at Charles Sturt University in NSW. He went on to complete his degree with a Distinction in 2007.
