Western Australia has to be one of Australia’s top wine travel destinations. We have 9 regions throughout the state and WA’s oldest wine region, the Swan Valley, is a mere 25 minute drive from the Perth CBD. We literally have wine at our fingertips and the best thing is that the wine industry in WA just keeps growing. Over the last 12 months or so we have seen a number of new cellar doors literally ‘open their doors’ to the public and I couldn’t be more excited. It’s time to give both your old favourites and the newbies some loving in 2016 and visit a cellar door or 5 in WA!
You may have already visited one or two from this list – however if you’re anything like me then you’ll no doubt be aiming to visit them all this year. And don’t forget to check out my wine region guides for more delicious cellar doors to visit in the; Swan Valley, Perth Hills, Margaret River and Great Southern.
Swan Valley:
Pandemonium Estate
Pandemonium is the newest cellar door (opened in November 2015) in the Swan Valley on the Great Northern Highway strip up near the top of the Valley. I am yet to visit, however I am biting at the bit to get a moment to pop up there. These guys are producing whites made from Chenin Blanc, a rose made from Grenache, a Moscato, red Shiraz blends (featuring Tempranillo, Grenache and Vioginer) and a liqueur Grenache fortified. Bottle prices range from $15-25 approx.
Okay, so Fig Tree aren’t really new seeing as they opened their doors in September 2014 however it is another Swan Valley cellar door I am yet to visit so I am kinda classing it as new in my books. I am failing as a local aren’t I. But in my defence I have tried to visit Fig Tree a couple of times but they’ve been closed. I will eventually get there when they’re open Fig Tree produce a range of wines from Verdelho to Chardonnay, Shiraz straight up and Shiraz blends with Cabernet and Grenache alongside a tasty sounding Shiraz liqueur fortified. Bottle prices range from $18-38 approx.

Barton Jones Wines
I have to admit, I am a bit of a Barton Jones addict after seeing them at various festivals over the past few years. Every time I bumped into the lovely Jackie Barton I enjoyed updates the ‘coming soon’ cellar door and in 2015 they did it! The impressive Barton Jones cellar door opened and I’m sure I’m not the only one who it swept away. It’s an absolutely stunning spot to enjoy a wine tasting or three and the platters are a winner too! Read my post on visiting the Barton Jones cellar door here.

Margaret River:
Amelia Park Wines
Amelia Park opened a new cellar door November 2015 and I have to admit it looks rather inviting! Cheers @smashbriar for the heads up on this one. I have to admit I’m a sucker for an awesome wine label and their ‘Trellis Collection” labels are stunning! Amelia Park produce Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet straight up and blended with Merlot. Bottle prices range from $15-50 approx.
Fraser Gallop use to be by appointment only and in 2015 they opened a new cellar door. I loooved my visit to Fraser Gallop, these guys produce some wicked wines. Fraser Gallop specialises in Semillon Sauv Blanc, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. You also must try the Ice Pressed Chardonnay while you’re there if it’s opening for tasting! Bottle prices range from $25-50 approx.
What was once the Saracen Estate cellar door operating alongside Duckstein Brewery on Caves Road is now Sampson & Bowen with internationally awarded winemaker Robert Bowen behind the helm alongside Stewart Sampson ‘the guy that does all the other stuff’ apparently. Robert also showcases his Pemberley Wines through the cellar door (I loved the Robert Bowen wines at UnWined in 2014). Thanks @carly_simmonds for the heads up, can’t wait to check this wee venue out on my next visit, according to Carly the menu is ‘absolutely divine’. Enough said!
Mr. Spittoon and I stumbled across Apricus Hill on our first trip to Denmark last year and we were pleasantly surprised. Apricus is Harewood Estates sister property and is the highest vineyard in the region – gorgeous views and I just love the cute ‘hobbit like’ cellar door. Apricus produce single vineyard Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and a Rose Merlot. Bottle prices are $28 approx.

Arcadia produce both sweet and dry Rieslings (yes they’re not all sweet!)). Bottle prices range from $17-22 approx.

Ugly Duckling 2014 Sparkling Chardonnay Ugly Duckling is such a fabulous spot in the Swan Valley. It is a small cellar door which is just off West Swan Road and it faces out to the vineyard. It is open-air with live music on the weekends and they make some of the best pies in Australia…
Okay, so it was more like 4 nights, rather than 1. However, when writing a blog post about my recent wine adventures in Bangkok, how could I not somehow include the ‘One Night In Bangkok’ song? It just had to be done. You may have seen on my social media channels, that I was recently…
One of the most unique dining experiences I have come across in Perth… When I saw an ad on Facebook for a free drink with any pizza ordered on Thursday nights at Chapel Farm in the Swan Valley I simply couldn’t say no. Located in the Middle Swan, not far from Midland central I was truly…
The Swan Valley is proving to be a hub for innovative thinking when it comes to wine, craft beer and distilleries and there is now a new kid on the block, working right out of Pandemonium Wine Estate; Swan Valley Gin Co. I was lucky enough to be invited along to the launch of their gins…
Sittella NV Sparkling Rose Sittella know how to make good sparkling, no actually they don’t. They know how to make awesome sparkling! Since moving to Perth I have been in love with their Sparkling Chenin Blanc, at $20 its awesome value and so tasty. But when Sittella released two new Méthode Traditionnelle’s (made exactly how…
Coming from New Zealand I have to say the scenery of the South of France isn’t too different from home – lots of hills, lots of greenery and lots of farm animals about the place. However of course the biggest difference has to be the castles and old stone ruins dating back centuries, which is…
