Gilberts Riesling 2017 Mount Barker
I was so spoilt on this trip to Sydney as Naomi brought so many goodies over from WA for us to sip on. Including this Gilbert Wines 2017 Riesling from Mount Barker in Western Australia’s Great Southern wine region.
I visited Gilbert’s cellar door in the Great Southern last year. If you’re heading south, it’s such an easily accessible spot to stop at as it’s on Albany Highway. I’d highly recommend stopping in a tasting and some lunch if you have the time.
I found the 2017 a pale lemon and lime shade with lemon citrus, charred orange peel, spiced apples and florals on the nose. In the mouth, it’s über refreshing and crisp. It actually reminded Naomi and me of a lemon tart with its fruitiness yet it was deliciously dry. We took it to dinner at a dumpling house just up the road from our Airbnb. Yum!
