City Wine 2018 – Naomi’s Highlights
Please note: Travelling Corkscrew was provided 2 complimentary tickets from Wine & Food Events WA (thank you!!). All words and opinions are our own.
You know you’ve had a fantastic night out when you’re nursing a hangover (here are some great wine hangover cures by the way) and your partner is still in bed, sound asleep. I, however, am dedicated to the Travelling Corkscrew Blog, awake at 7am ready to write up my review of last night at City Wine.
Firstly I will say, don’t let today’s forecast of rain put you off from attending. I was really impressed by the number of marquees to keep you dry while you taste wine and get your boogie on with the live music.
Here are my top tips from last night:
1. Get there early
We arrived not long after 4pm and the crowd was pretty small at this stage. We were able easily move between wine stalls and have a really good chat with the winemakers and vineyard owners. As the night progressed the crowd became larger and harder to talk about the wines.
2. Have a chat to Settlers Ridge Winery if you suffer from Asthma but love your wine
Not only do they make asthma and allergy friendly wines, they’re also certified organic from NASAA and their wines are low in natural preservatives.
3. Everyone, there’s Prosecco!
Ever since visiting the Prosecco region of Italy last year I am obsessed with Prosecco. The team at Riverbank Estate have Prosecco available for tasting, along with bubbles, Vermentino, Verdelho, Rose and a selection of reds.
Make sure while you’re at the stand to get a selfie with their giant wine bottles from their Rebellious range and include #rebelliousatcitywine when posting to Instagram to go into the draw to win some of their wine.
4. Your friends aren’t sure about going because they don’t like wine?
Firstly, why are you friends with these people? Secondly, there is plenty on offer when it comes to beer and spirits, including Funk Cider, Gage Roads, Gin Gin Gin, Matso’s, Hopped Up Brewing, Limeburners, Run A Muk Cider Co., Yummy Rhum and Thorny Devil.
We took a break from drinking wine towards the end of the night, enjoying a Matso’s Ginger Beer and a Dark and Stormy.
5. If you love Chardonnay, you will love this event
Mega highlights for me were from Fifth Estate Wines and Gilberts Chardys. I was in Chardonnay heaven!
6. I ate the best Gyoza
While weighing up the options with what to eat, do yourself a favour and try the gyoza from the Gyoza Joint. Although I didn’t want to share my food, I just had to share the foodgasm I was experiencing with my friends.
7. There is live music all night
Enjoy live performances from the Entertainment Lounge each day while you relax and enjoy time with friends! And what a way to end the night, but no other than a sing-along to Horses!
Here are some more photos from the event to whet your appetite.
City Wine is on today (Saturday, 9 June) from 2.00pm – 9.00pm at the Urban Orchard in the Perth Cultural Centre.
