City Wine 2016 – Oh What a Night!
Last night as some of you may have seen on my social media channels I attended City Wine in Perth City. I had an awesome night and so did the group of friends I went along with. We were absolutely spoilt for choice with a tasty line-up of wines, food, beer, cider and spirits. As the event is on again today (Saturday 11th of June 2-9pm), I wanted to do a bit of a recap of some of my favourite parts of the festival. My only regret is that I wish I had the time to get around them all!
A huge thanks to CMS Events for inviting Mr. Spittoon and I along. Yet again another awesome festival put on by these guys! So here is what I managed to see at the festival last night:
3drops
A favourite of mine! It was great to see husband and wife team Joanne & John manning the stall. As always the Riesling and Chardonnay went down an absolute treat. And yes it was my friends in the corner gobbling up the bread and olive oil!
Brygon Reserve Wines
Brygon always have a good selection on offer to try. I love their quirky labels and it was the french-style Shiraz rose that stood out for me!
@brygonreservewines doing their thing at #citywineperth ?

Castelli Estate
Another favourite of mine, I can never turn down a taste of the Checkmate bubbles! However tonight it was the newly released 2016 The Sum Riesling which I simply couldn’t get enough of!
That Checkmate bubbles from @castelliestate! I can never turn it down ? #citywineperth #perthwine

Clown Fish & Cowaramup Wines
By the time we got around to Clown Fish the lines were huge, luckily I managed to slip myself in for a wee taste of the whites, all of which were refreshing and pleasing on the palate!
The line up for Clown Fish & Cowaramup Wines was huge! #citywineperth #perthwine

Fifth Estate Wines
I can’t get enough of Fifth Estate! It was great to see Jess again after seeing her the week before at Cellar Door in the City. Naturally I had to get re-acquianted with the wines, that sparkling Shiraz though, it’s a true winner for $25 a bottle!

Frog Choir Wines
I sent the boys in for this one as I was still trying the whites at this stage. Frog Choir had a vertical tasting of 3 reds. Reports from the boys came back all really positive and they were amazed to see the difference between the years!
Happs Wines
The first stop of the day, and a very good place to start! You’ll be shocked to hear it was the 2015 Chardy that I couldn’t get enough of! #chardonnayaddict
First stop of the evening last night was @happswines ? #citywineperth #perthwine

Harmans Estate – The Honest Vintner
This was one of the biggest highlights for me and it wasn’t just because they gave us temporary tattoos to put on right there and then! It was the 100% Pinot Noir methode champenoise sparkling that had me week at the knees. From the colour to the nose to the palate – it is one heavenly tipple that I’ll be hunting out again for sure. The Zinfandel was also a winner and it shocked my ‘I only drink Merlot’ friend as she actually liked it! The peer pressure worked!

House of Cards
These guys make some great stuff – I always enjoy sipping on their bubbles, Sauv’s and Chardonnays! Plus how can you not love their marketing! It was great to try the Limited Release”The Blackjack” Malbec too – it’s a stunner!
So much tasty goodness in the one spot at the @houseofcardswine stand! #citywineperth #perthwine

Howling Wolves
This was another one I had to send a few of the team to check out as the line-up for Howling Wolves was crazy! I’m not surprised though as these guys make some awesome stuff and are always a hit with their wine cocktail, the Cabernato Mojito. A few of the team came back with their Sparkling White Shiraz which was tasting absolutely beautiful!
Kerfuffle Wines
I love these guys! Their stand always looks awesome and the wines never fail to impress. The port was going down a hit with the girls and I was quite into the rose!

Neilson Estate Wines
It’s always good to bump into the Neilson’s at these events, as this local Swan Valley winery doesn’t have a cellar door. It’s a good chance to try through the range. Reports from the team were that everything was tasting pretty darn good!
Redgate Wines
I love Redgate Wines. The dude on the stall, pictured below, was awesome! He took me through all the wines and if you asked me to pick my favourite – I couldn’t say! The whites and reds both went down an absolute treat and I really enjoyed chatting the night away with them.

Settlers Ridge Organic Wine
The Canadian chick on the stall at Settlers was awesome! She provided some great insights on the wine and Mr. Spittoon and I really enjoyed chatting with her. The Sauv Blanc and Sangiovese were my picks of the night!

Talisman Wines
As always, it’s great to run into Talisman Wines. The 2014 Chardonnay and 2014 Merlot are must-try wines if you’re heading along to the event today or get a chance to try them at future events!
The lovely Dee from @talismanwines at #citywineperth last night. The event is on again today 2-9pm!

‘The Blackwood’ by Latitude 34
These guys were super cool and I admit I was the girl who had to go back for seconds of that Rushy Creek rose – so tasty!
Great to try the @blackwoodestate wines last night at #citywineperth – that rosé ?

The Lake House Denmark
These guys were uber busy as they had tastings of the vinofood range on offer too. I absolutely loved visiting The Lake House when I went down to Denmark last year. And those vinofood products are truly scrumptious.
Vine Collective
It’s always great bumping into the owner of Vine Collective – Ben. He is super knowledgable on all things to do with WA wine and without a doubt always has something interesting on offer. The Mr Braval Mistral Viognier Marsanne was an intriguing one with interesting texture and an almost nutty apricot-y-ness to it. Yes I realise that’s not a real word! There were also some grand tipples from Faber Vineyard, Brave New Wine, Singlefile and La Violetta to try.

Windance Estate
So lovely to see Billie and husband Michael manning the stand. It was great to try some of the newer vintages as it’s been awhile since we visited the cellar door. The Windance Chenin Blanc will always be my go-to wine for spicy meals – this semi-sweet wine with lashings of tropical fruit flavours is an absolutely beauty and teams so well with a chilli-fuelled dish!

Woodgate Wines
I will always remember Woodgate as the winery that made me take Aussie Sauvignon Blanc seriously. The Pemberton based winery knows what they’re doing when it comes to cool-climate wines and that Bojangles Pinot & Chardy sparkling is to die for!
I didn’t try any of the food (big regret!), though people from our group did and loved it! The bites to eat from Herb Faust Food, Saigon Eats, The Hummus Club, Skak Shuka and Two Queens all looked droolworthy! There were also a few beers, cider and spirits on offer to give you a break from wine (if you needed it). I tried a couple of tipples from Gage Road Brewing which went down a treat.
I wish I had time to get around all the exhibitors and the stamina to try every single wine on offer, but alas I do have a liver that already doesn’t like me a great deal! All up though, myself, Mr. Spittoon and our wine-loving friends had a fabulous time! Is it too soon to say bring on City Wine 2017?
